Once, when the coffee plants were engulfed by Desmodium weeds in a coffee plantation in Hawaii, there was no apparent solution of ridding the weeds and harvesting the coffee. The planter let the weeds grow in desperation. His son, however, thought out a plan and hired a flock of sheep. Yes, you heard me right, sheep do not chew on coffee plants and they were released into the Kona coffee plantation. The plantation was soon rid of weeds. The story doesn’t end here. An organic agricultural consultant decided to check the soil and found that the manure left behind by the animals added to the organic value of the soil!
