Fluocinonide cream 0.05%is useful for so many skin inflammations and infections. Taro Fluocinonide cream 0.05% is a topical corticosteroid cream in the prescription strength. It is used for the various skin diseases that require the corticosteroids. Common eczema, psoriasis, poison ivy irritation etc could be remedied with the help of this topical cream. It can reduce the inflammation, redness, and swelling in the affected areas and bring down the problem within a week or 2.

This easy to use cream will constrict the blood vessels and thus reduce the inflammation and other symptoms at the affected areas. It also works to signal the immune system to work accordingly to bring down the problem.

The Fluocinonide cream 0.05% is useful in the cases of mild to moderate severity. Sever infections might need the corticosteroid injections and more therapy.

This topical cream could be used for a shorter period of time until the symptoms subside. It is suitable to be used in all except children under the age of 2.

Fluocinonide cream 0.05% ingredients

The Fluocinonide cream 0.05% contains 0.5mg of fluocinonide with citric acid, 1.2.6-hexanetriol, glycerin, polyurethane glycols and stearyl alcohol in every gram of the cream.

Using Fluocinonide cream 0.05%

The Fluocinonide cream 0.05% should be applied only once or twice a day. The main dosage is individualized by the physician. In any manner, the dosage should be restricted.

  • Wash and clean the affected area with a mild soap and pat dry the area.
  • Apply a thin layer of the cream, all over the affected area. Give it a slight massage so that the cream is well absorbed into the skin.
  • Close the tube of the Fluocinonide cream 0.05% and wash your hand to remove all traces of the cream.
  • If you have another cream to follow after this, wait at least half an hour before you apply it. Mixing both the creams may not be healthy. The half an hour should be enough to get the applied cream to be absorbed.

The maximum period in which you can use the Fluocinonide cream 0.05% is 2 weeks. It should not be used continuously for more than this time. It should also be noted that a maximum dosage of 60 gms per week is the limit.

Each tube of Fluocinonide cream 0.05% is 15 gms and one may use up to 4 tubes per week as a maximum limit.
The application method is the same for all. The only difference is that for children between the ages 2-12, only a sparing amount should be used per time.

In all the cases, the application should be stopped once the symptoms have subsided.

Contraindications of Fluocinonide cream 0.05%

  • Patients with hypersensitivity could have reactions to fluocinonide. In rare cases, it might also cause reactions to other corticosteroids.
  • It might cause suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal glands, which is reversible. It can also cause problems with Cushing’s syndrome, hyperglycemia etc.
  • Diabetic patients need extreme caution while using this topical cream as it can delay the healing of ulcers.
  • It is not safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
  • Fluocinonide cream 0.05% may interfere with the medications for fungal infections, Herpes infections, TB, varicella and viral infections.
  • Taro Fluocinonide cream 0.05% should not be applied on the face and is obviously not a remedy for acne.

Fluocinonide cream 0.05% side effects

Side effects for Fluocinonide cream 0.05% possible are only moderate to mild. Severe effects are only rare. One may expect mild skin irritations, hypopigmentation, headache, rashes, and hypertension– in the early stages of use etc.

Conclusion

Fluocinonide cream 0.05% is a strong corticosteroid that when used right can bring down the skin problems. Overdose, in this case, can cause major problems within the body and not just on the skin surface. Extreme care is called for the use of this topical cream. Use only 2-4 times a day and not more than that. It is also available in the varieties like gel and solution.
