Virgin Coconut oil and its benefits…!!!
Let’s have a look at the virgin coconut oil that is available in the market. As it says in the name, it is made from actual coconut meat rather than copra (which is dried version of coconut kernel/meat). Let me talk a little bit more further…
Normal coconut oils are prepared from Copra which can be dried by various processes such as sun drying, smoke drying or sometimes a combination of both. You further need to purify it to make refined coconut oil as unrefined oil are not fit for consumption purposes. To make refined oil the standard procedures are RBD (refined, bleached and deodorized). More chemical solvents are also used to remove the impurities of copra oil to make it ‘refined’.
Although there is no correct definition of virgin coconut oil, it can be achieved through some comprising process such as quick drying and pressing the oil out using mechanical devices. As the oil is taken from Coconut meat, high chemicals are NOT used for further refining of this oil. Coconut milk can also be achieved but the meat should not be dried and needs to be pressed at the initial stage itself to derive coconut milk.
