Using Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is the better option than white vinegar. The raw unfiltered Apple cider vinegar contains other nutrients like proteins, enzymes and beneficial bacteria in it. All of these come in use when this type of vinegar is used.
Apple Cider Vinegar Soak
Mix equal parts of Apple cider vinegar and warm water in a small tub. Clean the feet thoroughly and dry it. Put in the infected toes in this ACV-water mix for about 15-30 minutes. When done, pat dry the toes and apply the anti-fungal cream, Tea tree oil, Listerine or undiluted ACV directly on the affected nails.
Do not soak for more than 30 minutes at a time. You can repeat the process twice every day until you see relief. It may take a few weeks to get the infection off.
The same ACV soak can be done even after the infection is gone. It is soothing to the feet and can prevent further or future infections. As part of maintenance, use it daily in the beginning and reduce the frequency to 1-2 times a week.
ACV Direct Application
Apply a few drops of the undiluted ACV or an equal mix of water, on to the affected nail. Make sure that these drops stay in place and do not run off. You can keep soaked cotton in the place and wrap it around the nails. You can apply it 2-3 times a day for best results. Rinse off the vinegar if you are feeling any burning sensation. Otherwise, let it stay in place and let it dry naturally.
ACV Drink For Immunity
Mix 2 tablespoons of Apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. The water should be at room temperature. You may add a little honey to counter the pungent taste of the vinegar. Drink this mix on empty stomach in the morning daily. This will reduce the fungal growth and helps boost the immunity. You can also drink it any time of the day as a detox drink.
White Vinegar In Place Of ACV
If you do not have the Apple Cider vinegar you can use the white vinegar to get the same result. The vinegar of any type is acidic in nature. It alters the pH of the nail bed to acidic. The fungus cannot survive in acidic conditions and thus get destroyed.
White vinegar is ideal for the external applications and soaks. Though it works all the same when consumed, it would not have the nutrients that are present in the Apple cider vinegar. If it just cured you are looking for, then the white vinegar would work just fine.
Using White Vinegar
- Vinegar soak: Mix in one part of vinegar with 2 parts of warm water. Use this mix for the soak. Soak in for 15 minutes and pat dry.
- Direct application: Soak a cotton ball with white vinegar and place it over the affected nail after a bath and anytime. Just make sure that the nails are clean before you do this.
Side Effects Of Using Vinegar As A Cure For Toenail Fungus
There are no major health hazards of using vinegar as a cure. The main thing to know is that it can make the skin dry. You need to apply a good moisturizer on to the surrounding skin to prevent it from drying. Using almond oil, olive oil or coconut oil would also work well.
Another side effect can be the burning sensation. Vinegar is acidic in nature and that can cause burning sensation for the sensitive skin. You can do further dilutions to ease this problem.
Vinegar can cause pain and burn the infection as well. If the infection is severe it can cause pain and burn to the extremes.
The one thing to remember is that vinegar cure may work only for the mild or moderate infections. For the severe toenail infection, this would not work alone. But you may always use the Apple Cider vinegar to get relief and reduce the inflammations in the infected area. It would also work as a perfect preventive measure and follow up.
